Toddler overdoses on parents’ heroin

As her parents lay passed out on the kitchen floor, two-year-old Alonna Bolden ingested $175 worth of heroin and is currently in intensive care at a Portsmouth, Ohio hospital. Both Jason Bolden, 41, and Brandy Estep, 26, were arrested and charged with Child Endangering.

The incident took place shortly after midnight early Wednesday morning when Portsmouth Police Department Officer Taylor Culbertson responded to the location after being alerted by a neighbor. Upon arrival, the officer observed a red SUV driving away and was informed that the child and her father were being driven to the hospital by another male.

Officers responded to the Southern Ohio Medical Center Emergency Room and were informed that the child arrived unconscious and having difficulty breathing.

Estep was observed through an open apartment door by Officer Culbertson and she was unresponsive. He called an ambulance and she was transported to the same hospital as her daughter.

An investigation revealed that Bolden and Estep were using heroin that evening and lost consciousness. Family friend Laura Royal arrived at the residence and observed Alonna as looking “blue.” Bolden woke up and instead of immediately calling an ambulance, he searched for the missing heroin that his daughter allegedly ingested. Only after being persuaded to, he brought his child to the hospital.
