TOP DEM: Don Jr. will testify in public come hell or high water

On Tuesday, a top Democrat lawmaker said she expects Donald Trump Jr. to testify in public–regarding the Trump administration’s role in the Russian influence of the 2016 presidential election–”come hell or high water.”  The comment came from Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).

Attorneys for Trump Jr. and former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort released a statement last month, saying a deal had been struck with the Senate Judiciary Committee which relieves them from having to testify in public.

“Both Donald Trump Jr. and Paul Manafort, through their attorneys, have agreed to negotiate to provide the committee with documents and be interviewed by committee members and staff prior to a public hearing,” the statement said. “Therefore, we will not issue subpoenas for them tonight requiring their presence at Wednesday’s [July 26] hearing but reserve the right to do so in the future.”

Trump Jr. did climb the Hill last week to deliver his highly-anticipated testimony on the June 2016 meeting between himself, other Trump executives and Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya behind closed doors.

But in an interview with CNN on Monday, Feinstein, a Democratic ranking member on the Judiciary panel, commented on whether she believes Trump Jr. will return for further testimony.

“I do,” she said. “…come hell or high water.”

However, Trump Jr. felt his closed testimony was sufficient.

“I answered every question posed by the committee related to this topic, as well as all of their questions on other topics, until both sides had exhausted their line of questioning,” he said.

“I trust this interview fully satisfied their inquiry,” the first son added.

But committee Democrats, as well as special counsel Robert Mueller, appear to be far from done with him.
