Reports of Muslims physically attacking and or killing Christians has become commonplace throughout the world as Islam continues to grow at a rapid pace. Islam is currently the fastest growing religion in the world, and is expected to the second largest religion in the United States by the year 2050.
Sadly, the latest report of a Christian being persecuted for his or her faith ends in a death. This time, the report is of a young boy killed by an entire class of Muslim students.
In the Muslim-majority country of Pakistan, Christians are being persecuted more often as the Pakistani government, which now is led by Muslims, grows more radical by the day. One Christian teenager paid the ultimate price for being non-Muslim when he was killed at school by his Muslim classmates.
Despite years of institutional discrimination and peer bullying, Sharoon Masih had achieved academic excellence in school. His teachers thought he had a bright future, so they persuaded his impoverished parents to send him to a better school in the wealthy Vehari District in the Punjab.
His father, Elyab Masih, 35, saved money from his job as a labourer at a brick kiln and paid the tuition for Sharoon to join the MC Model Boys Government High School Burewala and District Vehari.
Because he was Christian, Sharoon was isolated from the first day he joined the new high school on Aug. 25.
Sharoon’s mother, Riaz Bibi, 30, said that her son was warned by his peers not to mix with Muslims at school. “One boy is believed to have said, ‘You’re a Christian, don’t dare sit with us if you want to live,'” she said.
Using ethnic slurs, the students taunted the boy when they weren’t trying to convert him to Islam, but Sharoon never succumbed to the peer pressure.
Without a single school friend to his claim, the boy had no other activities to engage in. Therefore, Sharoon immersed himself into his studies. In fact, he studied so intensely that he reportedly became one of the top performers in his classroom in the first few days of school. Tragically, this did not help him to win over friends, either.
On his fourth day of school, Sharoon, who was the only Christian in the class, was brutally beaten to death in a classroom by many of his fellow students.
Incredibly, the teacher in the room claimed that he was reading a newspaper and did not notice the attack. The head teacher later stated that the attack occurred between classroom sessions and that a teacher was late to arrive, which allowed for the murder to occur without being noticed.
Schools officials have fired the head teacher, according to a blog post from the British Pakistani Christian Association.
According to the blog post, one of those instigated in the murder, Muhammad Ahmed Rana confessed and has been arrested and detained by local police, but few others feel remorse for killing a Christian, and no-one is willing to implicate the other murderers by naming them.
