Spanish police officers were sent on a high-speed chase in Barcelona after a Swedish man was seen driving on the wrong side of the road in a stolen truck.
According to the Daily Mail, the truck was carrying gas cylinders which made the armed situation even more dangerous. Spanish police fired at the truck as it rammed into several vehicles on the Roda del Litoral.
The driver, identified as 33-year-old Joakim Robin Berggren, was seen laughing as he was slamming into oncoming traffic.
“When people shouted at him, he would laugh and make offensive gestures with his hand,” one passerby told AFP reporters.
The Daily Mail reports Spain’s Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido said the act was “not a terrorist act,” and added that Berggren has a “psychiatric history.”
One non-life threatening injury was reported after one of the gas canisters fell from the truck, hitting a car.
Berggren was arrested at the scene.
