President Donald Trump will hire Washington, D.C. lawyer Ty Cobb to oversee the White House’s responses to the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
Cobb will manage legal and media responses from the White House regarding the probe.
During recent weeks, rumors emerged that the president was considering hiring Cobb.
Cobb will be the senior White House authority regarding matters pertaining to the investigation, and will work with Trump’s outside legal team led by Marc Kasowitz.
White House spokesperson Lindsay Walters said, “We have no announcement at this time,” regarding the hiring of Cobb.
This week’s revelation by Donald Trump Jr. that he met with a Russian lawyer in an attempt to obtain opposition research on Hillary Clinton highlighted the need for the Trump administration to address allegations of collusion.
The president was previously accused of obstruction of justice for his handling of the investigation, and for his dismissal of FBI Director James Comey amidst a federal investigation into General Michael Flynn’s connections to Russia.
