President Donald Trump’s deputy assistant, Sebastian Gorka, appeared on CNN’s “New Day” Tuesday, and he didn’t have an entirely friendly exchange with host Alisyn Camerota. During the set, Gorka eviscerated the host and the network for their habit of “selectively choosing” what they cover, based on political party affiliation.
In the clip, Gorka and Camerota initially began by discussing plans for the next steps in Mosul, and moved on to President Trump’s meeting with Russian President Putin. Then, the two faced off over allegations of collusion.
Gorka said the DNC had colluded with someone in the Ukraine to attack then Republican candidate Donald Trump. Camerota was more interested in the newest Russian scandal revolving around Donald Trump Jr.’s emails with Rob Goldstone, in which they set up a June 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer who said she had damaging information about Hillary Clinton.
Gorka said CNN had a pattern of gleaning information from a “bubble,” and went on to question why the host was interested in one group of people, while ignoring potential crimes from others. He said that as a private citizen, Trump Jr. was not obligated to disclose the information about the meetings.
Camerota then showed a graphic of seven Trump people connected to the Trump campaign who did not disclose meetings with Russian officials. She suggested that they all tried to hide their dealings with Russians.
“So, you have a list of seven people. OK,” Gorka said. “What about individuals who got half a million dollars to give speeches when their wife was running for president. Why don’t you devote 35 minutes to that?”
Camerota said that since Trump won, the media would naturally be more interested in what he and his administration were up to. Gorka wasn’t willing to accept that.
“So if somebody doesn’t win, if they commit a crime, it’s irrelevant to American national security? How does that work?” Gorka asked. “The fact that she doesn’t win makes it irrelevant to CNN? I mean, that is fake news.”
Gorka then accused CNN of choosing stories and ignoring real crime.
“That’s when you’re selectively choosing what to look at and you downgrade real crimes and don’t look at them, and spend nine months looking at something that has no evidence of anything illegal,” Gorka said.
Camerota suggested that the president and his associates are just obsessed with Clinton, to which Gorka countered with a biting retort, saying, “No, we’d actually like you to do your job.”
Gorka told Camerota that CNN is “not is the news business anymore” and that, instead, they’re in the “attacking-President-Trump business, and it’s sad.”
Camerota disagreed with Gorka taking shots at journalism, to which Gorka said, “No, not journalism. CNN.”
