Thursday, the Nobel Institute announced it has 318 nominees currently under consideration for the group’s lauded peace award.

Though the names of nominees are kept locked and sealed for 50 years per the guidelines of the institute, the men and women tasked with providing candidates for nomination are not barred from revealing their choice.

Notable candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize include President of the United States Donald Trump, the Syrian White Helmets, National Security Administration leaker Edward Snowden and Pope Francis.

Vladimir Putin, the American Civil Liberties Union and Raif Badawi, a currently imprisoned Saudi blogger, are also believed to have been nominated.

An anonymous American nominator handed in Trump’s name as a way to shine a light on the president’s “peace through strength ideology.”

Trump dissenters, such as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and Pope Francis, were also nominated for their blockading of presidential policy and outwardly speaking against the U.S. commander-in-chief.

Syria’s White Helmets, the country’s volunteer first-responders group tasked with charging into the fray of civil war, were spotlighted in an Oscar-winning documentary entitled “The White Helmets.”

Badawi is a liberal activist who currently sits in jail as punishment for publishing his condemnation of Islam.
