In a 24 hour period following Monday night’s debate, some of the biggest names in politics, Wall Street, philanthropy and sports were able to mobilize a huge fundraiser for the Trump campaign.
On Tuesday morning the campaign announced the total amount raised and even provided the names of some of the fundraisers including New York Jets owner Woody Johnson and Hollywood producer Steve Mnuchin.
The Trump campaign split up fundraisers into six separate groups: Team YUUUGE, Team MAGA, Team IRREDEEMABLES, Team DEPLORABLES, Team Trump Digital Fundraising, and Team Trump, and the more than 100 top fundraisers went to Trump Tower in New York City to make calls.
“As a result of Donald Trump’s huge debate win last night, we had a massive fundraising day bringing in more than $18 million. This is a movement to Make America Great Again,” Steven Mnuchin, Trump campaign finance chairman, said in a statement. “We are grateful for the support of millions of Americans across the country. With this kind of energy and generous support behind us, we are going to have President Donald J. Trump in the White House.”
Whether Trump even needs the donations is another question. Clinton has been out raising Trump this entire election but she doesn’t have much to show for it. Last month Clinton raised $53 million more than Trump, yet the two are still tied in a dead heat.
