According to officials on President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team, Trump has offered the position of Secretary of Interior to Ryan Zinke, a first-term House Republican from Montana.
Congressman Zinke, 55, is a former Navy SEAL commander and trained geologist. As Interior secretary, he would oversee the nation’s public lands and waters.
Politico reported that Zinke endorsed Trump in May and solidly stood by him in spite of being attacked by Democrats for doing so. Zinke also campaigned with Trump, and his wife, Lola, is a member of Trump’s transition team regarding veterans’ issues.
Zinke was also a speaker at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
Fox News reported that Zinke has accepted the offer.
Zinke was interviewed by Neil Cavuto recently about the need for a better vetting program for refugees.
