Trump chooses popular Catholic for Ambassador to the Vatican

This weekend, the White House announced that President Trump has chosen Callista Gingrich, the wife of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, to serve as ambassador to the Vatican.

Gingrich is a traditional Catholic who also serves as a member in the choir of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. In terms of previous business experience, she worked the last ten years as the CEO of Gingrich Productions, a multimedia production and consulting company from Arlington, Virginia.

Further credentials, as pointed out by the White House during the announcement, include her experience as a congressional aide and her writings as an author. She co-authored the popular book ‘Rediscovering God in America.’

She will require a senate confirmation to assume the role of ambassador. The announcement was made prior to Trump’s planned trip to the Vatican to congregate with Pope Francis.
