Trump comments his feelings on Mueller-Comey relationship in interview

Appearing Friday morning on “Fox & Friends,” President Trump discussed the Russian investigation, stating, “There has been no obstruction, there has been no collusion. There has been leaking by Comey, but there has been no collusion, no obstruction — and virtually everybody agrees to that, so we’ll have to see.”

Regarding special counsel appointee Robert Mueller, Trump called the man’s close friendship with former FBI director James Comey “very bothersome” after Fox News host Ainsley Earhardt pointed out that the former FBI director had hired Hillary Clinton supporters to join his investigative team as special counsel.

“I can say the people that have been hired are all Hillary Clinton supporters,” he added. “Some of them worked for Hillary Clinton — I mean, the whole thing is ridiculous, if you want to know the truth from that standpoint.”

Asked whether he thought those relationships should force Mueller to recuse himself from the investigation, Trump said, “Well he’s very, very good friends with Comey, which is very bothersome. We’re going to have to see.”

House Speaker Newt Gingrich recently called Mueller the “tip of a deep state spear aimed at” the President and suggested that he either be removed from the investigation or step aside.

Trump’s reaction was milder. “Robert Mueller is an honorable man, so hopefully he’ll come up with an honorable solution,” he said.

During the Fox interview, Trump also acknowledged rumors that Nancy Pelosi could step down as House Speaker. “If she steps down, I’d be very, very disappointed,” he stated, adding that he hopes to “keep her right where she is, because our record is extraordinary against her.”
