Trump denies deal was made with Pelosi and Schumer on DACA, but DML ain’t buying it

Written by DML

On Wednesday evening, my inbox was on fire. DML readers were asking me, ‘What the heck is Trump doing?’ Fox News and The New York Times both reported Wednesday evening that the president had cut a deal with Democrats to protect illegal aliens (“Dreamers”) from deportation and to provide a path to citizenship in exchange for border security enhancements not including the wall.

Having read the Fox and Times articles, and all the buzz surrounding them, I decided not to write my own report knowing full well that by morning the story would change.

Even if Trump did cut a deal for amnesty on Wednesday night, by Thursday morning, he would recognize that the world around him would soon implode — thus — he would quickly change his mind.

I was correct. Well, sort of.

Thursday morning is shaping up to be much like the early days of this presidency when nobody knew what was going on. Is it fake news? Has the president flip-flopped? What’s going on?

The fact that this sort of mixed message is happening nine months into his presidency is a sin and a sign of poor leadership. He should stop having the romantic dinners with Pelosi and Schumer. It’s gotten to the point where supporters like myself are getting extremely uncomfortable.

I don’t know about you, but I am not willing to compromise on amnesty. Not only does it break every campaign promise, but it adds to the growing voter base that wants a progressive U.S. where everything is free and where foreigners take pole position instead of Americans.

On Thursday morning, Trump tried to put the cap on reports from last night that he agreed to protect “Dreamers” during the dinner with Pelosi and Schumer.

In a  multi-part tweet Thursday morning, Trump sent the following message: “No deal was made last night on DACA. Massive border security would have to be agreed to in exchange for consent. Would be subject to vote. The WALL, which is already under construction in the form of new renovation of old and existing fences and walls, will continue to be built.”

Despite Trump’s creatively worded tweet, I believe the original reports from Fox News and the Times. Not because I believe the media over the president, but because I believe the president wants to give amnesty to the “Dreamers.”

Trump added two more tweets this morning concerning the DACA issue which, in my opinion, fully support my growing doubt about Trump’s willingness to keep his campaign promises regarding immigration.

In a two-part tweet, he wrote: “Does anybody really want to throw out good, educated and accomplished young people who have jobs, some serving in the military? Really!…They have been in our country for many years through no fault of their own – brought in by parents at young age. Plus BIG border security.”

Trump’s tweets are showcasing a two-faced message. He is trying to keep his base from going into panic mode, and at the same time, appease the Democrats. News flash for Mr. President: When it comes to immigration, you will never make both sides happy.

Pelosi and Schumer called Wednesday night’s dinner at the White House “very productive.”

Shortly after their statement, the White House issued its own statement agreeing that the meal was productive, but that the exclusion of the border wall “was certainly not agreed to.”

Matt House, Schumer’s communications director, responded on Twitter: “The President made clear he would continue pushing the wall, just not as part of this agreement.”

The New York Times cited a White House official who said Trump pushed for border wall funding at the meeting.

Besides the border wall issue, the Democrats said Trump agreed to enshrine protections for the nearly 800,000 immigrants brought illegally to this country as kids, who had benefited from the DACA program.

Trump ended the program earlier this month and gave Congress six months to come up with a legislative fix before the statuses of the so-called Dreamers begin to expire.

I responded to Trump this morning with my own tweet.  Due to the limited characters one can use on Twitter, I had to use Twitter code. Thus, the tweet is intended to read like this: “You’re going to lose this battle with voters. You’re falling for the same trap as Reagan. Enough with the bleeding heart B.S. Don’t shoot yourself on 5th Ave., we won’t forgive you.”

DACA does not need to be legalized, nor does the Dream Act, in order to achieve border security. Why he doesn’t see this — or chooses to ignore it — is something voters will have to ask themselves.
