President-elect Donald Trump slammed the Democratic National Committee late Friday night, saying “gross negligence” on their behalf is to blame for Russia being able to hack their systems.

Trump issued the statement on Twitter just hours after the declassification of a U.S. intelligence report indicated with “high confidence” that Russia attempted to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.

“Gross negligence by the Democratic National Committee allowed hacking to take place. The Republican National Committee had strong defense!” Trump’s tweet read.

After Trump’s Friday meeting with intelligence officials, he issued the following statement:

“While Russia, China, other countries, outside groups and people are consistently trying to break through the cyber infrastructure of our governmental institutions, businesses and organizations including the Democrat National Committee, there was absolutely no effect on the outcome of the election including the fact that there was no tampering whatsoever with voting machines.”

Trump defended the statement Saturday morning, doubling down on the fact that there is no evidence to prove election results were affected.

Trump then took things further and went on to suggest that Russian hacking is only being discussed because Democrats were on the losing end.

The president-elect may be right when he makes this comment. If the Democrats had walked away with a victory in this election, there’s a good chance any hacking allegations would have been swept under the rug.
