President Trump took to Twitter this morning to convey his disgust with the 9th Circuit court for upholding the decision made by a Seattle Judge to curb the president’s executive order on extreme vetting.
Trump tweeted: “LAWFARE: ‘Remarkably, in the entire opinion, the panel did not bother even to cite this (the) statute.’ A disgraceful decision!”
Lawfare is a form of asymmetric warfare consisting of using the legal system against an enemy, such as by damaging or delegitimizing them, tying up their time, or winning a public relations victory. The word is a portmanteau of the words law and warfare.
However, Trump was citing a blog post from a website called Lawfareblog.
The blog post stated the court made the right decision: “The Ninth Circuit is correct to leave the [temporary restraining order] in place, in my view, for the simple reason that there is no cause to plunge the country into turmoil again while the courts address the merits of these matters over the next few weeks.”
The Friday tweet is the follow up to a tweet made on Thursday night in which the president vowed to fight the courts over the decision.
LAWFARE: “Remarkably, in the entire opinion, the panel did not bother even to cite this (the) statute.” A disgraceful decision!
