On Thursday afternoon, Speaker Paul Ryan canceled the vote scheduled for the American Health Care Act because he and the president did not have the 216 votes needed for it to pass in the House.

In concert with Ryan canceling the vote, Republican leaders scheduled a closed-door meeting to discuss and negotiate terms of the bill.

According to Dana Bash of CNN, President Trump, through his budget director Mick Mulvaney, told the Republican holdouts on Thursday evening that he was finished negotiating. In short, if this bill doesn’t pass on Friday they would be “stuck” with Obamacare (see video below).

“It’s unclear if they have the votes,” Bash said, “but they’re gonna move ahead and roll the dice and hope that that pressures enough people on the fence, or naysayers, to vote ‘yes.’”

Bash doubly confirmed Trump’s ultimatum by saying his top aide, Steve Bannon, told her the same thing as did Mulvaney.

After the meeting was over, Rep. Leonard Lance (R – N.J.) told Anderson Cooper he was a “no” vote, stating the bill does not lower premiums. Lance called on Democrats to step up and participate in helping reform the ailing healthcare system.

Representative Charlie Dent is considered a “moderate” Republican. He said he remains a “no” vote and doesn’t know whether the bill can pass tomorrow morning. He confirmed that negotiations are coming to a halt.
