There are many ways President Trump is changing the way things get done in Washington, for example — he’s actually getting things done. Our new president has signed 12 executive orders this week and it appears there are more to come.
His orders have ignited life into the pipelines, he’s imposed government hiring freezes, he pulled out of TPP, and yesterday he took the first steps to bolster border security. With just 12-swipes of a pen he has done more good for America than Obama did in 8-years. But the pace at which he is working is only part of the equation. It’s ‘how he’s going about his work’ — that’s the biggest change of all.
Trump is not playing the old game of slow moving politics. He is bypassing the traditional methods of long winded phone calls and meaningless meetings; he is using Twitter to bulldoze through the mud — he is using social media to establish policy faster than a millennial calls for an Uber.
Despite being 70-years old, Trump is using Twitter like a young pro. He is calling out the winners and losers with no apologies attached. He’s using Twitter to tip his hat and send fair warning to those who stand in his way. He’s essentially playing a young man’s game in order to make America great again.
Trump knows that the entire world stops spinning when he tweets. No matter where you live or who you are, admit it, you stop what you’re doing for a few seconds to read his one-liners. For example, on Thursday morning he sent out a tweet to Mexico which made me put down my coffee for a moment.
In his tweet he said it may be better to cancel his upcoming meeting with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto if Mexico refuses to pay for a wall to stop illegal immigration and the flow of drugs into the U.S.
“The U.S. has a 60 billion dollar trade deficit with Mexico. It has been a one-sided deal from the beginning of NAFTA with massive numbers…of jobs and companies lost.”
“If Mexico is unwilling to pay for the badly needed wall, then it would be better to cancel the upcoming meeting.”
Trump is a smart man. With just one tweet and a few thousand retweets, Trump sent a very clear message to the president of Mexico: “Pay up, or else…”
