Trump has inspired some interesting celebrities to run for office

Trump’s meteoric rise from real estate magnate and pop culture fixture to President of the United States has inspired some celebrities to throw their hat in the ring for the 2018 midterms.

One such celebrity is Hollywood Star Antonio Sabato Jr., who was one of the few Hollywood celebrities to immediately support Trump over Hillary, and who is driven by his Christian faith. Sabato Jr. was given a prime speaking role at Trump’s GOP nomination convention.

“In the past eight years, failed policies have caused our country to deteriorate. Our rights have been trampled and our security threatened,” he said. “We are weaker by almost every measure. We are on the wrong path.” He has also been adamant that Obama is a Muslim, saying he doesn’t support “the God that I love.”

Sabato Jr. is expected to win the Republican primary in his California district, but faces long odds against Democratic Rep. Julia Brownley in the main race, as the district leans 7 percentage points left, according to the Cook Political Report.

Another figure of note and Trump supporter who has mentioned a push for a political position is former New York Police Department detective Bo Dietl, who was gunning for Mayor Bill de Blasio’s position. He likes to call de Blasio “Big Bird.”

Dietl has appeared on Fox News many times since 2014, when he first mentioned his interest in running for mayor. “Hey Big Bird, I’m coming. I’m going to run against you,” Dietl said on Fox Business that year.

Sadly, Dietl all but squandered his chance at running against de Blasio, when a filing error disallowed him from registering as a member of either major party, and a racial slur he voiced in the process of trying to fix the problem caused the GOP in NYC to disallow him from running under the party’s banner.

The next celebrity is none other than millennials’ favorite childhood wrestling star: Glenn Jacobs aka “Kane.” After Trump gave much political publicity to the WWE following his campaign victory and his latest video of him beating down a CNN logo, Jacobs has decided to make a run at Mayor of Knox County in Tennessee.

Fourth on the list is another WWE star: Robert Booker Huffman aka “Booker T.” He has taken the ambitious track of seeking election as Mayor of the country’s fourth most populous city, Houston. He has noted his rise to stardom from nothing in his 30-year wrestling career and says he can be “a positive change agent for Houston.” He hasn’t yet said which political party, if any, he will affiliate with.

Rounding out the list is none other than Rosey Grier, the 84-year-old former NFL star. Grier seeks the powerful position of California Governor as Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown is retiring. Grier was an avid Trump supporter but has yet to say which political party he will run under in the deep blue state.
