Donald Trump Jr., eldest son of President Trump, responded on Twitter Monday afternoon to the alarming incident his wife, Vanessa, experienced earlier Monday, when she opened a piece of mail which contained a suspicious white powder, which turned out to be only cornstarch.

The New York Post reported:

Vanessa Trump opened the envelope — postmarked from Boston — at 10 a.m. at the East 54th Street home of her mother, Bonnie Haydon, in the posh Sutton Place neighborhood, the sources said.

She called 911 before she was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital as a precaution, along with her mother and a third person whose identity was not immediately known, according to sources.

Haydon handled the envelope before passing it to her daughter, sources said.

In addition to the powdery substance, the envelope contained a threatening letter describing Trump Jr. as a terrible person, according to sources.

Trump Jr. tweeted later Monday:

Thankful that Vanessa & my children are safe and unharmed after the incredibly scary situation that occurred this morning. Truly disgusting that certain individuals choose to express their opposing views with such disturbing behavior.

A special thanks today to the great men & women of the @NYPDnews @FDNY @SecretService @NewYorkFBI and the Joint Terrorism Task Force for their decisive action and incredible words of support to my wife and family. Their professionalism under pressure made a rough day manageable.

Vanessa’s sister-in-law, Ivanka Trump, also tweeted in response to the incident: “Thinking of @MrsVanessaTrump & wishing I was by her side today. No one deserves to be frightened this way. There is no excuse.”
