Why Trump is leaving White House for 17 days

President Trump needs to take a vacation, but it’s not just because he’s been working so hard for the American people. There is another, even more-pressing reason the first family needs to vacate the White House by the end of the week: the government is replacing the heating and cooling system in the West Wing, so everyone who works there will need to leave by the end of the week, according to a report in The Associated Press.

On Friday, the Trump family is expected to leave Washington for a 17-day trip to the president’s private golf club in central New Jersey. This will be his first extended vacation away from what he calls the “Swamp.”

Every August, Washington lawmakers leave the area and go on vacation. When asked earlier this week by reporters if Trump would do the same, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders replied, “We’ll continue to keep you guys updated on his August schedule as those details are finalized.”

Trump is known to spend weekends at his many properties, including his New Jersey golf club and his Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, but he has said that he isn’t comfortable with taking vacations.

“Don’t take vacations. What’s the point? If you’re not enjoying your work, you’re in the wrong job,” Trump wrote in his 2004 book, “Trump: Think Like a Billionaire.”

Back in 2004, he also told Larry King in an interview: “Most of the people I know that are successful really don’t take vacations. Their business is their vacation. I rarely leave. You know that. You and I are friends. How often do you see me going away?”

Trump had suggested that GOP senators cancel their August recess and not leave town until after voting to repeal ObamaCare, but the group couldn’t even pass the “skinny” bill.

The Senate is currently scheduled to be in Washington through the end of next week after Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) announced they would delay the summer break to try to catch up on a backlog of nominations and legislation. Now, just the opposite is taking place as GOP senators are reportedly looking to leave Washington on their recess a day earlier than expected.
