President Donald Trump reportedly spent his Saturday evening dining with megadonors Bill and David Koch at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
Chris Ruddy, the CEO of Newsmax Media and a friend of Trump’s, was also in attendance.
Politico sources, along with a spokesman for Koch Industries, confirmed the meeting took place.
“David Koch was indeed at Mar-a-Lago last night and did briefly chat with the president,” Steve Lombardo said in an email.
Details of the conversation were not disclosed, but The Hill reports that the Koch political organization plans to spend millions of dollars to help GOP members who voted against Trump’s healthcare plan because the plan did not fully repeal and replace Obamacare. According to Politico, the money will go towards paid media, direct mail, and grassroots canvassing.
“We will stand with lawmakers who keep their promise and oppose this legislation — and work toward a solution that reduces costs and provides Americans with the relief they need and deserve,” James Davis, the executive vice president of Freedom Partners said.
Americans for Prosperity and Freedom Partners said they are working together to block any legislation that is not a full repeal of Obamacare.
Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips said the group has “never wavered in our commitment to a full repeal of this disastrous law,” and added, “We want to make certain that lawmakers understand the policy consequences of voting for a law that keeps Obamacare intact. We have a history of following up and holding politicians accountable, but we will also be there to support and thank the champions who stand strong and keep their promise.”
