Trump Met with Potential VP Today

Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump met with the next potential VP on a list of candidates being vetted by the Trump campaign. Problem is the man he met with today received a grade “D” from NumbersUSA, a firm recognized as a leading voice in the immigration debate.

Trump met with Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee today, at Trump Tower.

Today’s meeting was just a “getting acquainted” session, said Corker after he emerged from the meeting.   Modestly, Coker told reporters today he has no reason to believe Trump is considering him for his running mate, but he didn’t rule out serving as VP or on Trump’s cabinet if asked.

“This was a meeting between two people who didn’t know each other except over phone calls, getting to know one another,” Corker said.   He confirmed they discussed China, Russia, and other foreign and domestic policy issues.

Bob Corker, 63, has been serving as a junior Republican United States Senator from Tennessee since 2007.   Previously he was the mayor of Chattanooga, TN from 2001-2005

Corker is chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He has had a key role in many foreign policy issues involving the Obama administration, including the Iran nuclear deal.   He has gained considerable national recognition since he took over the Foreign Relations Committee.

Last year, Time magazine named him to its annual list of the world’s 100 most influential people, ranking Corker alongside world leaders such as President Obama, Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Some GOP insiders have suggested Corker’s foreign policy background would be an asset to the Trump team.   Earlier this month, he reported offered to help Trump develop a foreign policy platform and said he stands ready to assist him in the general election.

Corker has also called for a review of the U.S. visa waiver program in light of the Syrian refugee crisis.

According to NumbersUSA, Corker originally spoke out against Obama’s amnesty bill, but then voted FOR it.
