Trump Moves Up SCOTUS Announcement

Early Monday morning, President Trump tweeted that he will announce his choice for a Supreme Court nominee on Tuesday evening at 8 p.m.

Last week the president said he would announce this on Thursday of this week but has now decided to move up the announcement to Tuesday.

Trump’s list to fill the late Justice Antonin Scalia’s seat is said to include Judge William Pryor of Alabama, Judge Neil Gorsuch of Colorado, and Judge Thomas Hardiman of Pennsylvania.

Republicans need at least eight Democrats to support Trump’s nominee so they can bypass the 60-vote filibuster hurdle.

Trump’s biggest headache may come from Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), both of whom stressed after a recent meeting with Trump that they want the president to pick a “mainstream” nominee to fill the high court’s open ninth seat.
