Trump: NBC News nuke story is “pure fiction”

On Wednesday, President Trump vehemently denied a widely touted NBC News report that he asked to expand the United States nuclear arsenal in a July meeting at the Pentagon, comparing NBC’s credibility to that of CNN.

According to the report, Trump’s request for a “tenfold increase” in nuclear weaponry was what caused Sec. of State Rex Tillerson to call him a “moron” and threaten to resign.

Trump took to Twitter, in his typical fashion, to deny the report, saying it is “pure fiction, made up to demean.”

“Fake @NBCNews made up a story that I wanted a ‘tenfold’ increase in our U.S. nuclear arsenal. Pure fiction, made up to demean. NBC = CNN!” he tweeted.

In a subsequent tweet, the president wrote: “With all of the Fake News coming out of NBC and the Networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License? Bad for country!”

The report notes that Trump’s request shocked top Pentagon officials and incited Tillerson.

In a July meeting at the Pentagon, Trump said that based on data showing the United States’ weapons stockpile has been decreasing over the past 50 years, he wanted to increase the country’s nuclear weaponry tenfold, according to the report.
