Trump Hotels is launching a new midscale hotel brand called American Idea, a new three-star hotel chain with a patriotic theme reminiscent of President Trump’s campaign mottos of “America First” and “Make America Great Again.”
The president’s sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, revealed the details of the plan Monday at a reception held at Trump Tower in New York.
The chain’s first three properties will be constructed in Mississippi, a red state in which Trump won 58 percent of the vote in the 2016 presidential the election.
“There is no political thought to it,” said Eric Danziger, chief executive of the Trump Organization’s hotels division, regarding the decision to launch the brand in Mississippi. He added that “many hundreds” of American Idea hotels could ultimately be located in both red and blue states.
According to Danziger, President Trump’s sons, who have assumed business operations while their father holds office, saw an opportunity for a chain of hotels in small and midsize cities during Trump’s 2016 campaign.
“I said, ‘That’s brilliant,’” Danziger said of the concept. “The reality is we should have something in those kinds of locations.”
The Hill reported that “American Idea hotels will reportedly display artifacts of American culture such as old Coca-Cola vending machines in the lobby and U.S.-made sundries in the rooms.” The hotels are described as a concept rooted in local history that will be different from standard midscale hotels.
The first hotels are expected to debut soon, as they are being rebranded from existing Comfort Inn and Holiday Inn properties.
American Idea hotels will have no overt connection to the president, Danziger assured, and the Trump name will not appear on the properties.
