Trump pays respect to Coast Guard members with golf tourney

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — President Donald Trump welcomed members of the U.S. Coast Guard to one of his Florida golf courses Friday, according to a report in

Coast Guard members received an invitation from the President to Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach to play and have lunch. Wearing a red USA hat and white polo shirt, Trump greeted the roughly 60 Coast Guard members and praised their response efforts in Texas and Florida during the devastating hurricane season. He made it clear that he wanted to say “thank you.”

Trump said the group would have a “little Coast Guard challenge” as he informed everyone that they would be taking part in a “4-man scramble” golf tournament.

Some of the service members hailed from nearby Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet. Trump had visited them over Thanksgiving to hand out lunches while they worked.

White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said Trump “wanted to thank these service members personally for their service to this nation.”
