Trump picks new director to lead I.C.E.

A former New York City police officer and border patrol agent is now President Trump’s new director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Besides working as an officer for the New York Police Department, Thomas D. Homan, who is presently the associate director of ICE, was once a border patrol agent and a special agent with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS).

Daniel Ragsdale was the previous director of ICE and will stay on in a lesser role as deputy director of ICE.

Thomas Homan has more than 30 years of service in the immigration enforcement field alone, and will now be in charge of enforcing over 400 laws concerning immigration and customs.

On Monday, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly made a statement concerning Homan’s new position. In the statement, Sec. Kelly said:

“I am confident that he will continue to serve as a strong, effective leader for the men and women of ICE. I look forward to working alongside him to ensure that we enforce our immigration laws in the interior of the United States consistent with the national interest.”
