President Trump has released a statement regarding the shooting that occurred early Wednesday while Republican congressmen were practicing in Alexandria, Virginia, for an upcoming charity baseball game.

Multiple reports claim that Republican Whip Steve Scalise and two Capitol Police officers were shot and others wounded.

A Fox News reporter posted a tweet noting that congressional staffers were also shot.

The president’s statement read, “The vice president and I are aware of the shooting incident in Virginia and are monitoring developments closely. We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of Congress, their staffs, Capitol Police, first responders, and all others affected.”
