Trump reveals his stance on ‘dreamers’

In a Friday interview with The Associated Press, President Trump said that young illegal aliens brought to the United States by their parents—commonly known as “dreamers”—should “rest easy” about his immigration policies.

The president asserted that his administration is “not after the dreamers, we are after the criminals. That is our policy.”

Former President Barack Obama protected “dreamers” from deportation through an executive order that modified enforcement priorities.

According to attorneys, 23-year-old Juan Manuel Montes was recently deported to Mexico despite having qualified for deferred deportation under Obama’s DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) plan, although there are alleged extenuating circumstances in his case.

Trump contends that Montes’ case is “a little different than the dreamer case,” though he did not expound on the subject. Montes filed a lawsuit Tuesday for access to records pertaining to his deportation.
