President Trump tweeted on Sunday about CNN shutting down Bernie Sanders mid-interview because he described the network as “fake news” while speaking with a host Friday night.
Trump tweeted that CNN claimed technical difficulties were the reason for the abrupt cut-off of Sanders.
Sen. Sanders was asked by CNN host Erin Burnett if it was a problem that the president said he hadn’t seen the report regarding National Security Advisor Michael Flynn’s discussions on Russian sanctions before Flynn was sworn into office.
President Trump had stated:
“I don’t know about that. I haven’t seen it. What report is that?”
Sen. Sanders replied to Burnett:
“Well, I don’t know. Maybe he was watching CNN fake news. What do you think?”
Sanders quickly added, “It was a joke,” on air before being cut off by CNN and going black.
CNN returned after a brief break and Burnett apologized for “that technical issue,” while reiterating that Sen. Sanders’ statement about CNN providing fake news was a joke. Burnett then continued the interview.
