Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington does not tolerate pro-Trump groups well, and free speech has gone by the wayside there as extremists attack anyone who disagrees with them.
“Political Correctness and Hatred has taken over the campus,” read a Facebook post from a group known as Patriot Prayer, which attempted to de-fund the the state-run school through a free speech event held on Thursday. “Several students have reached out to Patriot Prayer—they are upset that professors and students have been spreading lies and threats to try to control the behavior of the students at the school.”
In response, Antifa — self-proclaimed “anti-fascists” who often exhibit fascist behavior in settings where they are confronted with conservatives — arrived to counter-protest Patriot Prayer’s rally.
Puget Sound Anarchists put out their own call to action, stating on their website, “This is a call out to antifascists, radicals, artists, anarchists, anti-racists, queers, feminists, and others to oppose the patriot prayer rally at Evergreen and drown out, embarrass, and expose them as the bigoted pathetic fools that they are.”
Only one 25-year-old man who brought a knife to the event was arrested for disorderly conduct during the demonstration, said Washington State Patrol.
“He had his knife open, and he was pointing it at one of our guys, so we put him down and took him to the cops, said ”Tusitala “Tiny” Toese.
Joey Gibson, the leader of Patriot Prayer, said that his group is being unfairly targeted as racists. “I love all people, because they’re human. It doesn’t matter what the color of their skin is. OK? And I’m sick of hearing about that,” Gibson told the reporters. “If we’re white supremacists, why do we have more people of color rolling with us than they do? That’s what I want to understand.”
Gibson said that he has actually tried to make peace with the other side, but they responded by hitting him in the face with a can of silly string and mace.
One unidentified student told the reporters that the reason she came to the Patriot Prayer rally was so that she could help drown out the “white supremacists.”
