President Trump re-tweeted a message from the White House Twitter account Monday afternoon, featuring a video of himself announcing a new website for those affected by the opioid crisis.

Trump said in the video that tragically, the opioid crisis has replaced the American dream with the nightmare of addiction, and said drug overdoses are now the leading cause of accidental deaths in the United States.

According to the new website, CrisisNextDoor.gov, an estimated 2 million Americans will suffer from addiction to prescription or illegal opioids in 2018.

Opioids killed more people last year than either car accidents or gun violence. This crisis of addiction can affect any American, from all-state football captains to stay-at-home mothers. As a result, Americans across the country are feeling the weight of the crisis next door.

“The opioid crisis has created stories of despair of shock, but also stories of recovery & hope. President Trump is asking every Americans to share their story to overcome stigma, & begin to fight against the Crisis Next Door,” the White House statement read.
