In a Saturday tweet, President Donald J. Trump said the “new NAFTA” deal does not need to include Canada, and he warned congress to stay out of the negotiations.

Trump tweeted: There is no political necessity to keep Canada in the new NAFTA deal. If we don’t make a fair deal for the U.S. after decades of abuse, Canada will be out. Congress should not interfere w/ these negotiations or I will simply terminate NAFTA entirely & we will be far better off. Remember, NAFTA was one of the WORST Trade Deals ever made. The U.S. lost thousands of businesses and millions of jobs. We were far better off before NAFTA – should never have been signed. Even the Vat Tax was not accounted for. We make new deal or go back to pre-NAFTA!

His comments come after a Friday deadline to reach a trade deal passed, although negotiations will continue and are set to resume next week.

Trump made off the record remarks that were published Friday, which caused concerns about the negotiations. However, Canada’s top trade negotiator, Minister of Foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland, said that she’s still optimistic a trade agreement that will be a win-win for everyone is “within reach.”

She also said her American counterparty, U.S. Trade Rep. Robert Lighthizer, has brought “good faith and good will to the table.”

  1. Trudolt is the cause of all this, he is using it to try to influence Canadians to hate Trump. That isn’t going to happen. How can we justify hating a man who only wants what is best for his country but is also fair? Trudolt cares nothing for Canada nor Canadians. We are sick to death of his mealy mouth rhetoric and leftist policies. He wants a “gender clause” in a trade deal? The moron is brain dead. I really don’t know if this trade deal will happen but if it doesn’t we can only hope that some spineless liberal backbenchers may have to actually get off their fat asses and stand up to him for the sake of our country and it’s economy.
