President Trump said this week that he would be willing to agree to a DACA deal to protect illegal alien youths from deportation, but he has repeatedly made it clear that any DACA deal he signs must include funding for a border wall.
Other priorities Trump has insisted upon are an end to both chain migration and the visa lottery program. However, those provisions were not included in the proposal the “Gang of Six” brought to him for consideration on Thursday afternoon, and Trump rejected their proposed bill.
Their deal reportedly included changes to the visa lottery program, along with a pathway to citizenship for the Dreamers and other qualifying undocumented immigrants, which would allow the DACA recipients to sponsor relatives.
The proposed bill also included special protection for immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and African countries, which led to Trump’s now widely-reported explosive remarks.
Saturday morning, the president shot out a tweet, challenging Democrats, and questioning how badly they really want to see a deal on DACA, in an obvious implication that if they want DACA, they need to meet his priorities as well.
“I don’t believe the Democrats really want to see a deal on DACA. They are all talk and no action. This is the time but, day by day, they are blowing the one great opportunity they have. Too bad!”
