President Donald Trump returned to Twitter on Thursday morning for another tweet, only this time it was about Russia.
In his first two tweets, the president focused on the success of U.S. businesses and the stock market. But in his second tweet, he turned toward the declining relationship between Russia and the United States.
The president wrote: “Our relationship with Russia is at an all-time & very dangerous low. You can thank Congress, the same people that can’t even give us HCare!”
The tweet comes on the heels of President Trump signing a bill to place sanctions against Russia, and the GOP failing to pass a repeal and replacement bill for Obamacare.
As for the sanctions legislation, it limits Trump’s ability to lift sanctions on Russia or return diplomatic compounds seized by the Obama administration in retaliation for Russian election meddling.
Today’s tweet is a doubling down of a statement made by Trump while signing the bill. The president said on Wednesday that what he was signing limited his executive power and ability to negotiate with Putin and Russia.
Trump said, “By limiting the executive’s flexibility, this bill makes it harder for the United States to strike good deals for the American people, and will drive China, Russia, and North Korea much closer together.”
The president called the legislation “seriously flawed” and included “a number of clearly unconstitutional provisions.”
Our relationship with Russia is at an all-time & very dangerous low. You can thank Congress, the same people that can’t even give us HCare!
