President Trump shot out a two-part messages on Twitter Saturday morning, after reading a new story in the Washington Post titled “Trump supporters eager to ‘drain the swamp’ help fill Republican Party coffers.”

The article, published Friday afternoon, notes that the Republican Party is on track to raise more money from small-dollar contributions than it has collected in more than a decade – all thanks to President Trump’s loyal supporters.

So far this year, the Republican National Committee has drawn in almost twice as much money ($40.3 million) in small donations as the Democratic National Committee ($25.1 million.) Washington Post wrote that it simply shows how “Trump’s support base, angered by the sense that the president is being treated unfairly, is helping to redefine a party that has long cultivated rich contributors.”

By the end of August, small donations of $200 or less accounted for more than $40 million of the $68 million in contributions to the RNC, almost 60 percent of the total.

The Post notes that the influx of cash from Trump’s base will give the GOP a major advantage as it goes into the 2018 election season and battles to retain control of Congress.

President Trump sent out a tweet of thanks, acknowledging the powerful influence of his loyal supporters:

“Can’t believe I finally got a good story in the @washingtonpost. It discusses the enthusiasm of “Trump” voters through campaign contributions. The RNC is taking in far more $’s than the Dems, and much of it by my wonderful small donors. I am working hard for them!”
