President Donald Trump tweeted an endorsement of Mitt Romney on Monday night, saying the former Utah Governor would be a “great Senator” for the state.
Romney announced his intention to run for a seat in the Senate, saying in a Twitter post: “I am running for United States Senate to serve the people of Utah and bring Utah’s values to Washington.”
Trump’s Monday tweet declared: “[Mitt Romney] has announced he is running for the Senate from the wonderful State of Utah. He will make a great Senator and worthy successor to @OrrinHatch, and has my full support and endorsement!”
In making his announcement for his Senate run, Romney said, “Utah has a lot to teach the politicians in Washington,” referencing the state’s balanced budgets and positive export-to-import-ratio to Washington’s.
He also seemingly took a jab at President Trump, saying “Utah welcomes legal immigrants from around the world,” while “Washington sends immigrants a message of exclusion.”
