TRUMP TWEET: Marshawn Lynch and the Mexican Anthem

President Trump sent out a lengthy Twitter statement early Monday morning, directed at NFL player Marshawn Lynch, who has been accused of standing for the Mexican National Anthem and not for the American National Anthem.

In his tweet, Trump writes: “Marshawn Lynch of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders stands for the Mexican Anthem and sits down to boos for our National Anthem. Great disrespect! Next time NFL should suspend him for remainder of season. Attendance and ratings way down.”

Marshawn Lynch, who sat out on the national anthem during the team’s first preseason game this year, has been criticized by others for his actions. In an interview with TMZ Sports, former Raiders’ legendary wide receiver Tim Brown said that protesting NFL players, like Lynch, are bringing “negativity to this incredible, positive situation.”

“Why, man? Why bring this to yourself? He has the perfect thing going on in Oakland. Why bring negativity to this incredible, positive situation? … I just don’t get it,” Brown said of Lynch. “I understand these guys, man. They’re trying to make statements and they’re trying to be a part of this world but football is where people go to get away from that stuff.”

According to one report from his coach, Lynch has been sitting since he first entered the league in 2007.
