President Donald J. Trump was celebrating the dismissal of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s former deputy director Andrew McCabe with a late-night tweet on Friday.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired McCabe Friday, saying his decision to do so was based on various reports, findings, and recommendations.

Later that evening, Trump tweeted: Andrew McCabe FIRED, a great day for the hard working men and women of the FBI – A great day for Democracy. Sanctimonious James Comey was his boss and made McCabe look like a choirboy. He knew all about the lies and corruption going on at the highest levels of the FBI!

McCabe, who had been set to retire on Sunday, has been linked to contentious decisions involving twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s email investigation, as well other investigations.
