Daniel Tarkanian, 56, a Republican businessman in Nevada who has launched and lost multiple campaigns for elected office over the past 14 years, is now running for U.S. Senate against incumbent Dean Heller in the 2018 Republican primary.
Heller, 57, is currently the senior United States senator for Nevada, having won the seat in 2012 after being appointed by Governor Brian Sandoval in 2011.
President Trump suddenly offered a suggestion in a Friday morning Twitter post, saying instead of both running for the same seat, Tarkanian should run for Congress and allow Heller to remain in the Senate.
Trump tweeted: It would be great for the Republican Party of Nevada, and its unity if good guy Danny Tarkanian would run for Congress and Dean Heller, who is doing a really good job, could run for Senate unopposed!
