President Trump spoke out in a Twitter statement Saturday evening, in response to the troubles swirling around Scott Pruitt, head of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Trump reportedly met with Prutt on Friday. The Hill reported that White House chief of staff John Kelly was pushing for Pruitt to be fired.

Friday, a group of 64 House Democrats sent a letter to President Trump, demanding that Pruitt be fired.

Pruitt is facing backlash over five key scandals:

  • Use of security detail
  • Choice to take First Class flights for official business
  • Renting a condo from lobbyists for $50 a day
  • Expensive office renovation
  • Concerns among aides, including pay raises for two of his top aides

However, President Trump confirmed his support for the embattled EPA leader on Saturday, tweeting:

While Security spending was somewhat more than his predecessor, Scott Pruitt has received death threats because of his bold actions at EPA. Record clean Air & Water while saving USA Billions of Dollars. Rent was about market rate, travel expenses OK. Scott is doing a great job!
