Hours after an Iranian missile blasted a U.S. Navy drone out of the sky, President Trump has tweeted a fierce warning: “Iran made a very big mistake!”

The high-altitude drone was shot down by Iran over the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has claimed the drone was over Iranian airspace when it was shot down, but American officials have insisted it was in international airspace, and have slammed the action as an “unprovoked” attack.

“Iranian reports that the aircraft was over Iran are false,” said Capt. Bill Urban, a U.S. Central Command spokesman. “This was an unprovoked attack on a U.S. surveillance asset in international airspace.”

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said President Trump has “been kept up to date and briefed last night and again this morning” on the attack.

According to news reports, a meeting will occur at the White House at 11:00 am ET, with President Trump and top military officials to discuss the matter.
