An audio of a secretly-recorded conversation between then-citizen Donald Trump and his former lawyer Michael Cohen was leaked to the media late Tuesday night, setting off a media firestorm of speculation on just what the tapes imply and whether they could create problems for President Trump.

The president responded to the audio release in a single Twitter post Wednesday morning:

What kind of a lawyer would tape a client? So sad! Is this a first, never heard of it before? Why was the tape so abruptly terminated (cut) while I was presumably saying positive things? I hear there are other clients and many reporters that are taped – can this be so? Too bad!
