President Trump joined Vice President Mike Pence and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos in the White House today to support expansion of the Opportunity Scholarship Program (OSP). They welcomed low-income families from Washington who use vouchers provided by the D.C. OSP to attend private schools.
Currently, Congress is close to passing legislation on a spending bill, which President Trump will sign into law. It will give additional funding to the D.C. OSP, the only one of it’s kind that uses federal funds.
President Trump called the OSP an extraordinary opportunity for young people to attend private school, noting that low income students should have the same opportunities as anyone else to get a “top level” education. He hopes to extend the program to millions more.
He also took the opportunity to assure the public that the new spending bill is a win for Americans.
He tweeted a video of portions of the event, which you can see here.
