Weighing in Monday on the hotly contested congressional special election in Georgia’s sixth district June 20, President Trump took to Twitter to urge voters to cast their ballots for Republican Karen Handel.
Voters in the Atlanta suburb will be selecting either Handel or Democrat Jon Ossoff to fill the seat formerly held by Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price.
Trump criticized Democrats in his endorsement of Handel, tweeting that they want to “stop tax cuts, good healthcare, and Border Security.” The president also noted that premiums under the Affordable Care Act would only increase.
“The Dems want to stop tax cuts, good healthcare and Border Security. Their ObamaCare is dead with 100% increases in P’s. Vote now for Karen H,” Trump tweeted.

The media is laser-focused on the special election since a win in the typically Republican district could be cited as a bellwether for the Democrats who are vying to win back the House in the 2018 midterm elections.
According to USA Today, Democrats believe that Trump’s low approval ratings will assist Ossoff in achieving victory.
Trump also contributed to Handel’s cause by recording a robocall that went out to voters in Georgia’s sixth district.
“If you don’t vote tomorrow, Ossoff will raise your taxes, destroy your healthcare, and flood our country with illegal immigrants,” Trump said in the recording.
