President Trump welcomed newly-released American hostage Josh Holt to the White House Saturday afternoon, after he returned back to the U.S. from a Venezuela prison where he had been held for the past two years.
Holt, 26, a Morman missionary, had gone to Venezuela in June 2016 to marry his then-partner, Thamara Caleño, who is a native of Venezuela. The Venezuelan government accused them of being spies and hoarding weapons and imprisoned him.
Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) flew to Venezuela, met with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, and returned back to the U.S. with Holt on Saturday.
President Trump tweeted a video clip of scenes from the White House meeting, and a message: “WELCOME HOME JOSH!”
