On Thursday, President Donald J. Trump tweeted out an endorsement of a New Jersey candidate and a congratulatory message for the prime minister of Japan.

Tweet 1: Jay Webber is running for Congress in the 11th District of New Jersey. He is outstanding in every way. Strong on Borders, loves our Military and our Vets. Big Crime fighter. Jay has my Full and Total Endorsement!

According to his website, “Jay Webber serves in the New Jersey General Assembly representing the residents of the Garden State’s 26th Legislative District and has been called ‘the conservative conscience of the State Legislature.’ He serves on the Assembly’s Labor and State & Local Government Committees. Assemblyman Webber and his wife Johanna live with their seven children in Morris Plains, where Assemblyman Webber is a trustee of St. Virgil’s Parish and a volunteer youth basketball and baseball coach.”

Tweet 2: Congratulations to my good friend Prime Minister @AbeShinzo on his HUGE election victory in Japan. I’m looking forward to many more years of working together. See you in New York next week!

According to AlJazeera:

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe won a ruling party leadership vote on Thursday, setting him on track to become Japan’s longest-serving prime minister and try to cement his legacy, including by revising the pacifist constitution.

The 63-year-old conservative secured 553 votes against 254 won by former defense minister Shigeru Ishiba, a hawkish self-confessed “military geek”, in a two-horse race for leader of the Liberal Democratic Party.

The win effectively hands Abe three more years as prime minister, giving him the chance of breaking the record for the nation’s longest-serving prime ministership held by Taro Katsura, a revered politician who served three times between 1901 and 1913.
