TRUMP TWEETS response to widow’s interview on GMA

During an appearance on “Good Morning America” Monday morning, the widow of one of the fallen soldiers in Niger spoke out for the first time about the controversy surrounding the phone call between herself and the president last week.

During the interview with GMA, Ms. Johnson said that President Trump called her while she was in a limo with family members and Rep. Frederica Wilson, who is a family friend.  Wilson has been in a war of words with Trump over what was and was not said during the call between Trump and Johnson.

Johnson used her time on GMA to rip into the president, claiming Trump did not remember her husband’s name during the call. She also confirmed that Trump, when speaking about her husband’s death in Niger, said: “He knew what he signed up for.”

Johnson defended Rep. Wilson by stating she was 100% accurate in her depiction of the phone call.

Trump, who was advised not to make the call by Chief of Staff John Kelly, decided to make the call anyway because he felt it was the right thing to do.

“Although I respect the wife of this fallen soldier, it’s hard to believe Trump would be rude on the call. We’ve all heard, by now, the other recording of the president making a call to a Gold Star family, and he comes off sounding sincere and empathetic. Perhaps Ms. Johnson heard the president incorrectly because she was overpowered by grief at the time,” said DML News CEO Dennis Michael Lynch.

Trump used Twitter to respond to the interview. The president tweeted: “I had a very respectful conversation with the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, and spoke his name from beginning, without hesitation!”
