On Monday evening, President Donald J. Trump sent out a pair of tweets slamming Iran’s leadership, and defending coal as “important.”

In a slam on the ” regime in Iran”, Trump posted a graphic showed a woman with a raised fist, a symbol of resistance, that read, “40 years of corruption. 40 years of repression. 40 years of terror. The regime in Iran has produced only #40YearsofFailure. The long-suffering Iranian people deserve a much brighter future.”

Trump rewrote the words in his tweet, then sent the message in both English and Persian. The tweets came on the fortieth anniversary of Iran’s Revolution.

National Security Advisor John Bolton expressed similar seniments in an earlier tweet that read, “After 40 years, the Islamic Republic of Iran has failed to fulfill its promises to uphold and safeguard the rights of its citizens. The 40th anniversary of the Iranian regime only serves to highlight four decades of failure and broken promises.”

Next, Trump tweeted a defence of coal as a fuel source, saying that “serious consideration” should be given to efforts to close plants in Tennessee.

Trump tweeted, “Coal is an important part of our electricity generation mix and @TVAnews should give serious consideration to all factors before voting to close viable power plants, like Paradise #3 in Kentucky!”
