The Rasmussen daily presidential tracking poll is often one of the more “friendly” polls for President Donald Trump. But, over past weeks it has shown Trump’s approval rating dip below 40 percent.
As of last week, Trump was polling at just 39 percent.
The dip was the result of a string of bad news and events. The healthcare bill not going through; the rough patch of time in which Anothony Scaramucci was the communications director; and Trump’s attacks on Attorney General Jeff Sessions hurt his rating.
But with those things behind him, the president’s approval rating is now heading upward.
The attacks on Attorney General Jeff Sessions have stopped; Scaramucci is gone, and General Kelly has taken over as chief of staff. Although the healthcare bill remains an issue, most people blame Congress and not the president. Overall, it appears the White House has found its footing.
Between the new stability in the White House, strong economic numbers, and his recent approach to North Korea, President Trump is seeing his Rasmussen poll numbers surge back into the mid-40 percent range.
On Friday, the Rasmussen daily presidential tracking poll showed the president’s approval rating at 45 percent.
Meanwhile, Trump’s approval rating is much lower with a Gallup poll which shows him at just 37 percent. However, it’s worth nothing that Gallup polls during the 2016 campaign often showed Hillary Clinton winning the election.
To put it all into comparison, President Barack Obama had a Gallup approval rating above 50% percentage at roughly the same point in his presidency.
The polls are based on phone and online surveys for 500 likely voters a night, and the daily number reflects a three-day rolling average.
“The question has to be how much influence does the media play in these polls?,” asks Dennis Michael Lynch. “People are getting bombarded with negative news about Trump. All they hear is about the Russia probe. CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN and MSNBC are putting out bad news on TV all day long, 7 days per week. The New York Times and Washington Post, along with USA TODAY, and most every local paper in the country, are all anti-Trump. They are focused on Russia, Russia, Russia. They are not reporting the sort of things we are reporting. People don’t have access to the truth if they watch and read these outlets. Fact is, the president is doing so great things, but people don’t know about them, and this is why the poll numbers are so poor. President Obama did battle this sort of media war.”

In a recent poll on the DML website, more than 70% of voters felt the president is doing a strong job as president. Many voters voice disappointment with some of his tweets, but overall they are focused on Trump’s ability to help businesses create new jobs.
