Evan McMullin, a former CIA operative, who most recently served as chief policy director for the House Republican Conference, launched his own presidential campaign on Monday. He is running for President of the United States as an Independent.
McMullin appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Tuesday. He claims to have thousands of volunteers, the financial backing of small donors, and no real blockades in terms of getting on state ballots. When asked if McMullin had big donor backing, the 40-year-old candidate said meetings with deep pocket supporters are in the works.
According to McMullin, both existing candidates are unfit for the presidency, and he says Trump wants to divide the country.
On Monday, Joe Scarborough said he believes McMullin is being supported by GOP insiders who want to keep Trump from winning. Another commentator on the panel said this could be the GOP insiders trying to give existing congressional candidates an alternative to Trump, thus, distancing themselves from the billionaire businessman.
